Announcing the 2025 Winter Season, Joyce Yang in concert with Festival Musicians
The 2025 Winter Season features guest curator and pianist Joyce Yang. A Sun Valley favorite, Ms. Yang has performed several times with Music Director Alasdair Neale and the Festival Orchestra, including the Festival’s Summer Seasons in 2013 (Tchaikovsky’s Piano Concerto No. 1), 2016 (Gershwin’s Piano Concerto in F Major), and 2021 (Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 2). Ms. Yang rose to fame in 2005 as the youngest contestant and silver medalist at the 12th Van Cliburn International Piano Competition. An accomplished chamber musician, she’ll join forces with Festival Orchestra musicians in a program featuring works by Poulenc, Dohnányi, and Schumann. Ms. Yang will also perform solo piano works by Rachmaninoff each evening.
The program will be performed each of the three evenings, March 6, 7, and 8, 2025. The concerts will take place at the Argyros Performing Arts Center in Ketchum, starting at 7:00 PM. (doors open at 6:30 PM). The concerts are about two hours long, including an intermission. As always, admission is free, but reservations are required. Information on attending winter performances is below.
On Wednesday, March 5, 2025, at 5:30 PM, the Music Festival will present “Upbeat with Alasdair” featuring Alasdair Neale and Joyce Yang in conversation. The event will be held at the Community Library in Ketchum and livestreamed on the Music Festival’s website. Also, during the week, Ms. Yang and Winter Festival musicians will interact with students in local schools, offering demonstrations, coaching, and master classes.
“It’s a privilege to welcome Joyce back to Sun Valley, this time in winter and on the intimate stage of the Argyros in Ketchum. She has assembled an eclectic and intriguing program of music that she feels a special connection to and which I know we will all enjoy immensely. I’m particularly looking forward to her chamber music collaborations with our musicians, since her intensely sensitive and communicative style of music-making lends itself exceptionally well to that genre.”–Music Director Alasdair Neale
