Gloria Yun

Born in New York and raised in a musical family, Gloria Yun’s first encounters with music were from piano lessons from her mother, clarinet lessons from her father, and singing in her church choir. It was through the influence of her older brother, an orchestral conductor, and her first experience playing Beethoven’s marvelous Seventh Symphony that awakened her to her calling as an orchestral musician. Since then, she has performed with the Bangor Symphony Orchestra, the Chicago Civic Orchestra, the Binghamton Philharmonic Orchestra, the Verbier Festival Orchestra, the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra, and the Music in the Mountains Festival Orchestra. She was invited to perform with the Nashville Symphony Orchestra in the beginning of their 2017-2018 season and joined the NSO family in the spring of 2018 as Piccolo/Flute III. She joined the Britt Festival Orchestra family in the summer of 2019.

Equally at home in the world of Broadway and session music as she is on the classical music concert stage, she was recently part of the 2023 Broadway tour of “Into the Woods” and can be heard on various soundtracks of video games and TV shows. She teaches private lessons and has been invited to lead masterclasses at the Vanderbilt University Blair School of Music and the MTSU Flute Studio.

Gloria Yun has studied at the Mannes College of Music and DePaul University, and her teachers include Sue Ann Kahn, Mathieu Dufour, and Érik Gratton. She has won prizes from the New York Flute Club, Pittsburgh Flute Club, Flute Society of Greater Philadelphia Young Artist Competitions, and the LISMA International Music Competition, and has been featured as a concerto soloist with the Hamburg Symphony Orchestra. In her spare time she enjoys drawing cartoons, cooking (and eating) sweets and Korean food, daydreaming, playing video games, reading webtoons, and taking long nature walks like her hero, Ludwig van Beethoven.
