Joseph Kaufman

 

Joseph Kaufman is the Assistant Principal Bassist of the Seattle Symphony Orchestra and Seattle Opera.  He was a fellow at the New World Symphony in Miami Beach, FL under the direction of Michael Tilson Thomas.  He has also served as principal bass of the Colorado Music Festival and Verbier Chamber Orchestra, and Assistant Principal of the Sun Valley Music Festival, and has also performed with the Netherlands Youth Orchestra, Fort Worth Symphony, Dallas Opera, and the Pacific Northwest Ballet.  Chamber music collaborations have included projects with James Buswell, Joshua Bell, and Dutch pianist/conductor Reinbert de Leeuw.  Additionally, he is active as a recording musician for many movie soundtracks.  Besides interests in orchestral music and contemporary chamber music, Joe can also be heard as the bassist with Seattle singer-songwriter Bill Patton and with his own band, The Seattleites.  He is a native of Twin Falls, Idaho.
