Assistant Principal Second Violin, Columbus Symphony Orchestra
Sydney Hartwick joined the Columbus Symphony Orchestra in 2023 as Fixed Fourth Chair in the first violin section, and recently won the position of Assistant Principal Second Violin. She began her musical studies at age six, and has since enjoyed a varied career. As an orchestra musician, she has performed extensively with the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra, and has also played with the Utah Symphony, St. Louis Symphony Orchestra, San Francisco Ballet Orchestra, and the New World Symphony amongst others.
As a soloist, Sydney has performed with the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra, Louisville Orchestra, Muncie Symphony Orchestra, and the American Fork Symphony (Utah). Sydney’s summer studies included attending the Aspen Music Festival and Sarasota Music Festival, both as a fellowship recipient, as well as attending the Domaine Forget International Music Festival. Most recently, Sydney performed a season with the Britt Festival Orchestra.
Growing up, Sydney attended the Jacobs School of Music pre-college program where she was a member of the Violin Virtuosi, and toured the US/Argentina performing both solo and ensemble repertoire. Prior to that, she studied at the Gifted Music School in Utah, performing in their chamber orchestra.
Sydney holds a BM and MM degree from the Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University, as well as a Professional Studies Certificate from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music. Sydney is passionate about teaching, and currently maintains a private studio. In her spare time, she enjoys running, hiking, and cooking. She is pleased to be participating in the 2024 Sun Valley Music Festival for the first time this summer.
